Punto de salida en Entrago — Senda del Oso

One of the most common questions before cycling the Senda del Oso is where to leave the car. Since it is a linear route — the start and end do not coincide — parking requires some planning. In this guide we explain the available options and how to organise yourself so it does not become a problem.

Where to park at the Senda del Oso

There are three main points to leave the car, each at a different section of the route. The choice of parking point is directly linked to where you want to start the route.

Entrago

Top end of the route — all downhill from here

Recommended
Start of the main route
Almost entirely downhill
Ideal for beginners and families
Associated with bike rental companies

Proaza

Middle section — area with services nearby

Mid-point
Easy access
Restaurants and services nearby
Suitable for shorter sections
Less downhill riding
You miss the full descent

Buyera

Final section — bear enclosure area

End of route
Easy access
Large car park
Next to the bear enclosure
Almost entirely uphill from here
Most demanding option
Least recommended for cycling the route

Parking in Entrago

Entrago is the most common starting point of the Senda del Oso and the most recommended option for leaving the car. It is at the top of the route, which means the whole ride is downhill.

There are designated parking areas in the vicinity and spaces associated with bike rental companies. It is the main reference point for most visitors.

Parking in Proaza

Proaza is in the middle section of the route. It has easy access and services nearby — bars, restaurants and rest areas. It is a valid option if you only want to do part of the route or are already in the area.

The main drawback is that you miss the full descent. If you park in Proaza and ride towards Buyera, the remaining section is less comfortable than if you had started from Entrago.

  • When it makes sense: short sections, if you are already in the area or want a quick ride
  • When it does not: if you want the full, most comfortable experience of the route

Parking in Buyera

Buyera is at the end of the route, in the bear enclosure area. It has a large car park and easy access. If you drive here to see the bears, it is a reasonable choice.

However, if you want to cycle the route from Buyera, the profile changes completely: almost everything is uphill. It is the hardest option and the least recommended for cycling the route normally.

Parking in Buyera to cycle the route

If you park in Buyera and want to cycle the route, you will be going mostly uphill. This is significantly harder and not the usual approach. It only makes sense if you want a very short section or simply want to visit the bear enclosure.

Which is the best place to park

In the vast majority of cases, the best option is to park in Entrago. From here you can do the whole route downhill, without unnecessary effort and with the most comfortable experience.

This is especially important if you are going with children, if you have no cycling experience, or if you simply want an enjoyable day without physical complications.

Why park in Entrago

Start at the top — almost entirely downhill
Free parking in the area
Directly associated with bike rental companies
Minimises effort — ideal for all levels
Return transfer available — no need for two cars

The real challenge: the route is linear

The Senda del Oso is not a circuit — it starts at one point and ends at another. This means that if you leave the car at the start, when you finish the route you will not be where you left it.

This is the usual logistical challenge that causes the most confusion. There are basically three options:

1

Leave the car at the start and cycle back

Means doing the route twice or part of it against the profile. More effort, less enjoyment.

2

Two cars — one at the top, one at the bottom

Requires coordination within the group. More complicated to organise, especially if you have come from far away.

3

Park at the top and return by included transfer

The simplest option. Leave the car in Entrago, do the route and the return transfer is included in the rental.

Tips for parking without problems

Arrive with time to spare

Especially in summer and at weekends. Spaces fill up faster than you might expect.

Avoid peak hours

The middle of the day in high season means more traffic. Early morning is best.

Choose the right spot

Parking in Entrago makes a real difference to the experience. It is not the same as Proaza or Buyera.

Plan the return journey

Having this sorted before you set off avoids last-minute improvisation when you are already tired.

When is parking harder to find

Parking demand varies by season. In high season access can be more complicated, and it is worth bearing this in mind when planning your trip. It is also useful to know in advance how long the route takes to organise the day properly.

Summer — July and August
Weekends in general
Bank holidays
Easter week

Spring and autumn
Winter

Free parking at the Senda del Oso

In most of the main areas — Entrago, Proaza and Buyera — parking is free. There are no regulated charges or usual paid zones around the route.

However, being free does not guarantee availability. In high season spaces can fill up, especially in Buyera due to its proximity to the bear enclosure. Arriving early is the best way to ensure a comfortable space.

Common parking mistakes

Not planning the return journey

The most common issue — finishing the route with no idea how to get back to the car

Parking at the bottom to cycle the route

Means a constant uphill, more effort and a worse overall experience

Arriving late in high season

Spaces fill up — it is best to set off early in the morning

Not asking where to leave the car

Rental companies sort this out on the spot — just ask

The most comfortable way to do the route without worrying about the car

If you want to avoid all these problems, the solution is simple: park in Entrago, rent a bike there and do the route downhill. When you reach Buyera, the return transfer to Entrago is included in the rental.

You do not need to worry about moving the car, coordinating transport or planning anything else. You just need to enjoy the ride. If you still have questions about what to bring to the Senda del Oso, we have a complete guide for that too.
