It is a greenway built on the former track of a mining railway, now fully paved, traffic-free and perfectly signposted.

The Senda del Oso route

The full Senda del Oso route covers around 28–30 km, depending on which section you ride.

The route can be done in either direction, but most people start from the top to take advantage of the downhill gradient. This means the majority of the ride is downhill, making the experience much more comfortable.

Where to start the Senda del Oso

There are several starting points, but not all of them offer the same experience.

Entrago (the best option)

Entrago is the most recommended starting point: it sits at the highest part of the route, allows you to ride mostly downhill, and has direct access to the trail. It is the most convenient option, especially if you do not want to worry about transport or logistics.

Other starting points

You can also start from Proaza or Buyera, although these options generally involve more effort or logistics.

This is the most popular route and the one recommended for most people. Starting in Entrago, the ride is almost entirely downhill — effortless and enjoyable. No prior experience needed.

From Entrago, at Caranga de Abajo there is a detour towards the Valdemurio reservoir. This section includes a climb, which is the most demanding part of the route. The climb to the reservoir does not have to be done by bike.

Is the Senda del Oso difficult by bike?

No. No. The Senda del Oso is an easy, accessible route for virtually anyone. The track is comfortable, traffic-free and mostly gently graded.

The only slightly more demanding section is the climb towards the Valdemurio reservoir, but it is not compulsory to ride it.

How long does the Senda del Oso take by bike?

The time depends on the route you choose:

  • Short route → 2 to 2.5 hours
  • Full route → 3 to 5 hours

One of the highlights of the route is the bear enclosure, located near the end of the trail in the Buyera area. It is a popular stop for everyone who rides the trail.
